In times of recession, it is not surprising that our historic environment can suffer from lack of investment. Buildings fall out of use, or suffer from lack of maintenance, and before we know it a spiral of decline has set in. On a larger scale, whole areas can be affected. At the same time local government financial and staff resources are being reduced. So what can the heritage sector do about it?

In this, the eighth of our London conferences, we will bring together a wide range of speakers to offer guidance on innovative practice. The conference will cover the following areas: the scale and extent of heritage at risk; the legislative powers available; and the availability of money to put things right. This will be backed up by some inspiring and practical case studies, which will show how some seemingly intractable buildings and areas at risk can be saved.

This conference will be of relevance to conservation officers and other heritage professionals, planners, architects, engineers, surveyors, building preservation trusts and archaeologists.
