It covers all major aspects of the conservation of historic buildings, areas and sites. Graduates of the course have gone on to work in all parts of the historic environment sector, including at English Heritage, Historic England, the National Trust, the Heritage Lottery Fund and a wide range of private sector organisations, local authorities and preservation groups. Students receive a thorough grounding in British architectural history, the principles of urban design in relation to the historic built environment, and the place of conservation within the planning system and the property market. Building materials and repair techniques are a particular strength; students have the opportunity to visit a number of onsite conservation projects across the UK and try their hand at a range of traditional building crafts. The programme is taught jointly between the Oxford Brookes School of the Built Environment and Oxford University’s Department for Continuing Education and may be studied full-time or part-time.
