The building owner renovated this traditional stone-built cottage circa 10 years ago (Figure 33) . This work had Building Regulations approval. This report author became involved when the building owners complained of damp and mould issues within the house. Design stage The owners claim the renovation works consisted of the following: • External rough cast render applied to natural sandstone stone walls approximately 450mm thick, with waterproof paint finishes • Gypsum plaster applied to internal walls with non- permeable paint finishes • New pitched roof and rainwater goods • New dormer roofs • New kitchen and bathrooms etc
