Welwyn Garden City (venue to be confirmed)
This day conference will explore the history of garden cities, suburbs and villages, and issues surrounding their conservation and future, as well as the design of new garden communities. The conference will feature a keynote session by Katy Lock of the Town and Country Planning Association, who is co-author of ‘The Art of Building a Garden City’. Contributors will also include: Mervyn Miller, author of ‘English Garden Cities (English Heritage); Sarah Rutherford, author of ‘Garden Cities’ (Shire Library); and Elain Harwood, writer on 20thcentury architecture, as well as a range of other national and local experts.
The conference will be held in Welwyn Garden City, Ebenezer Howard’s second Garden City, which celebrates its centenary year in 2020.
