Established since 1994, The Conservation Studio provides specialist conservation services primarily for the public sector. We have extensive experience of working with local authorities, and government agencies such as English Heritage, on ail aspects of the historic environment.

The Practice is deliberately based at Cirencester in order to provide an accessible nationwide service. To date, one in three of all local authorities in England and Wales have made use of our services.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council

A comprehensive planning strategy including:

  • A review of the historical development of the County Borough
  • Assessment of the legacy of landscape, settlements, buildings and industry
  • Analysis of the issues affecting policy, control, economics, and organisation
  • A plan for action


Priory Park, Dudley
Dudley Borough Council

Successful Parks for People bid for £2.6m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund towards a £3,5m scheme of repair and enhancement.

Registered park with ruins of the C12th Cluniac Priory of St James (Grade I and Scheduled), Priory Hall (Grade II) and a 1929 layout by Edward Prentice Mawson. We provided all the documentation for the bid including:

  • A Conservation Plan
  • Master Plan
  • Cost Plan
  • Audience Development Plan
  • Training and Education Plan
  • Management and Maintenance Plan

Chichester Conservation Area Appraisals
Chichester District Council

A major study of Chichester in 2004 has been steadily followed by a programme of conservation area appraisals for 16 villages including Bosham, Fishbourne, Selsey, west Wittering and now South Harting. Each has included management proposals, public consultation and an exhibition.
